Flor de Copan

The Flor de Copan factory opened in 1976 in Santa Rosa de Copan, in the mountainous northwest of Honduras, a year after the company behind it was formed by people already established in Honduran tobacco growing. It is the major industrial employer in the town and one of the few large cigar plants in the country located away from the Danli corridor.

Ownership has changed hands repeatedly. The plant passed to Consolidated Cigar in 1997, then through the Seita and Altadis mergers, and to Imperial Tobacco in 2004; it left Imperial with the 2020 sale of its premium cigar business. Management has remained Honduran throughout, which the factory's leadership has cited as the source of its continuity. The plant is the largest cigar operation in western Honduras and the main industrial employer in the town.

It employs roughly six hundred and fifty people and has been reported as producing up to sixty-five thousand cigars a day. Alongside its own Flor de Copan brand, the plant makes H. Upmann, San Luis Rey, Gispert and Romeo y Julieta lines for the United States market. Its position in the Altadis supply chain means its output reaches American shops under brand names most buyers associate with Cuba or the Dominican Republic.
