Claro

/ KLAH-ro /
Tobacco & LeafSpanish
Definition
A light tan or golden wrapper shade, typically from shade-grown leaf given gentle fermentation. The related trade term cristal is sometimes used for the palest, glossiest examples.
Why it matters
Claro wrappers usually accompany milder blends, and their pale surface shows every blemish, so growers must be far more selective about which leaves qualify.
In context
"The claro wrapper was so pale that a single water spot would have disqualified the leaf."
