Scoring Methodology

The system by which a publication or taster converts an evaluation into a number. Most major outlets use a 100-point scale weighting appearance and construction, flavor, smoking characteristics, and overall impression, with the scale in practice compressed into the 80s and 90s.

Understanding the weighting and the compression explains why a 92 and an 88 can be far further apart in practice than four points suggests.
