Criollo

Spanish for native or creole, and the traditional name for the old Cuban filler variety grown in the sun. Historic criollo was used for filler and binder while corojo supplied wrapper; the original strain has largely been replaced by improved selections.

Criollo lineage sits under a large share of modern Central American filler, so the name signals a flavor family more than a single seed.
