Tabla

ConstructionSpanish
Definition
The flat wooden rolling board on a torcedor's bench, where leaf is cut and cigars are formed. Hardwood is standard, worn smooth over years of use.
Why it matters
Surface condition matters for wrapper handling, since a rough or sticky tabla will tear a thin leaf during cutting.
In context
"Fifty years on that tabla and you can see the hollow where the chaveta ran."
