Browning

Production & CuringEnglish
Definition
The stage after yellowing, when oxidation of polyphenols turns the leaf tan to brown and the lamina dries. Stem drying follows, and the leaf is considered cured once the midrib is dry through.
Why it matters
Uneven browning shows up later as blotchy wrapper, so this stage determines how much of a wrapper crop will grade high.
In context
"Once browning finished they let the stems dry down before taking the leaves off the poles."
