Definition
A tobacco farmer, specifically one who works a vega. In Cuba the veguero is a distinct social figure, often working land his family has farmed for generations under quota agreements with the state.
Why it matters
The veguero makes the choices, on topping height, picking timing, and barn management, that decide how good the leaf can possibly be before a factory ever sees it.
In context
"The veguero decided to hold the corona priming an extra week, betting on more oil."
