Aganorsa Leaf
Founded in 1998 by Eduardo Fernandez as a Nicaraguan tobacco grower, later adding manufacturing and its own brands, formerly sold as Casa Fernandez.
Eduardo Fernandez started the business in 1998 as a farming operation, buying land in Jalapa and Esteli and rebuilding Cuban-seed varieties in Nicaraguan soil. For most of its history the company's main product was leaf rather than cigars: Aganorsa-grown tobacco has been used by a long list of other manufacturers, and several boutique brands have been built explicitly on the strength of that sourcing.
The company added its own factory in Esteli and a rolling operation in Miami, and sold cigars under the Casa Fernandez name before consolidating everything under Aganorsa Leaf in 2018. The branded portfolio includes Aganorsa Leaf Aniversario, Signature Series, Supreme Leaf, Rare Leaf Reserve, Guardian of the Farm and the lower-priced JFR line. Rolling in Miami is done on a small scale, largely for limited releases, while the bulk of production is handled in Esteli.
The dual role of grower and manufacturer is the defining feature: the company sells to competitors while competing with them. Fernandez has continued to lead the business with his son Max. Because the corporate structure spans several entities and public documentation is uneven, this record is marked reported. The company's farms in Jalapa are among the most frequently cited sources of Nicaraguan wrapper and are named directly in the marketing of several unrelated brands.
