Plasencia Cigars

The Plasencia family's own-name brand, launched in 2017 after generations spent growing tobacco and manufacturing under contract for others.

The Plasencias were tobacco growers long before they were brand owners, tracing their work to Cuba in the nineteenth century and rebuilding in Honduras and Nicaragua after leaving the island. For decades the family's business was leaf and contract manufacture: at various points Plasencia factories have made cigars for a large share of the non-Cuban premium industry, which made the name familiar inside the trade and invisible outside it.

That changed with the Alma series. Alma Fuerte, released in 2017, was the first line built to carry the family name at the top of the market, followed by Alma del Campo and Alma del Fuego, each drawing on tobacco from different Nicaraguan growing zones. Reserva Original and Cosecha releases sit alongside them, and the company has also produced organic-certified tobacco.

Nestor Andres Plasencia leads the branded business while the family continues to farm and manufacture at scale in Esteli and Danli. Because the family's operations span several companies and countries, corporate founding dates are inconsistently reported and are omitted here. The Plasencia name had long circulated inside the trade as a manufacturer rather than a brand, so the 2017 launch amounted to a public introduction of a business that was already very large.
